Everybody Goes Home (Landscape Shape Scape)
Louis Buhl & Co. is pleased to present a new edition by artist Cody Hudson, titled Everybody Goes Home (Landscape Shape Scape). The artist extracts elements from the natural world and reimagines them into simplified geometric shapes that work together to form a harmoniously expressive composition.
Produced in collaboration with Signal Return, a Detroit nonprofit dedicated to preserving and teaching traditional letterpress printing, this edition was created in the lead-up to Hudson’s solo exhibition at the gallery, It’s Alright Cause I Know My Own Way Back Home From Here. This project is a limited edition of 25, measuring 16 x 20 inches, with each print hand-numbered, and signed by the artist. The edition will compliment the works on view, altogether showcasing an expansive view of Hudson’s practice, and highlighting how his visual language translates fluidly across various media and techniques.

Herb Sundays 167
When Sam from Ghostly International asked me to make a mix for Herb Sundays I was as equally excited and honored as I was nervous about it. As a fan of the series, there have been so many good ones I’ve listened to and so many by people that I appreciate that it was a challenge to try and fit myself into that. I started making one that covered all of the music styles I listen to but it felt too disjointed and wasn’t actually a mix I would listen to on a Sunday afternoon at home. So I went more the honest route and just made one that feels very similar to what gets played around the house most Sundays.
All of these are songs that touch me in some way. Some are songs I’ve been playing once a week for years and others are songs that are newer to me and have been recently dropped into rotation. Some of these are songs I’ve cried to. Some are songs I’ve got high to. Songs I’ve listened to while making scrambled eggs and a pot of tea. Some that really make me think and others I just like the feel of. These songs work as well for sitting on the porch in Wisconsin with deer running through the yard as much as they do for listening to on headphones at an airport wishing I was home.

Ghostly presents a new capsule from Cody Hudson, It’s Alright Cause I Know My Own Way Back Home From Here, named for his new exhibition at Detroit’s Louis Buhl. Our second project with Hudson, the renowned Chicago-based artist, designer, and creative director, aka Struggle Inc., features a short-sleeve tee, long-sleeve tee, embroidered hat, and full-zip sweatshirt. Hudson’s work for brands like Nike, Mister Green, and 1733 stands out in that it always speaks in dimensions. Whether woodcut, cut steel, or just 2D, the sense of space is always elemental to the feeling of the work. Midwestern in character and accessibility, Hudson’s work carries a small but celestial energy, and in the case of his Ghostly collaborations, a playful serenity.
“As stated before, the graphic work of Cody Hudson made a huge impression early on Ghostly and has never left," says Ghostly founder Sam Valenti IV. “His record sleeves (Chocolate Industries, Counterflow) helped define the era in which Ghostly emerged from. His new show is fabulous and was a perfect excuse to talk up a new project.”
Hudson adds: "Sam and I had been talking about doing another project together since our last collaboration in 2021. So when I began working on pieces for this show in Detroit at Louis Buhl, it seemed like a good opportunity to have the collaboration tie into that with all of us having strong ties to the midwest.

Louis Buhl & Co. is pleased to present a new exhibition with Chicago-based artist Cody Hudson, titled It’s Alright Cause I Know My Own Way Back Home From Here, and opening October 18, 2025. The show will feature new paintings on linen and canvas, a series of works on paper, and three of Hudson’s signature powder coated aluminum sculptures.
Hudson’s work is defined by a recurring vocabulary of shapes grounded in the language of abstraction, where organic and geometric forms drawn from both the external and internal world converge. In It’s Alright Cause I Know My Own Way Back Home From Here, references to landscapes and still lifes sit alongside forms that channel ongoing themes of loneliness, hopefulness, darkness and positivity. His paintings layer these motifs into compositions that are at once meditative and playful, balancing introspection with optimism.
The exhibition marks Hudson’s first experiments with shaped panels, expanding the flat surface into more sculptural territory. This impulse carries through to the three aluminum sculptures on view, which echo forms found in his paintings, creating a visual dialogue of repetition across media. Several new works also employ internal repetition—images mirrored within themselves at smaller scales—suggesting cycles of time and the ebb and flow of contemporary life; “It’s with these I was thinking about time and space and the push and pull of the world we are living in,” Hudson explains.
During the run of the exhibition, Hudson will produce a letterpress print with Signal Return, a Detroit nonprofit dedicated to preserving and teaching traditional letterpress printing. The edition will compliment the works on view, altogether showcasing an expansive view of Hudson’s practice, and highlighting how his visual language translates fluidly across various media and techniques.
Additionally, a collaboration with Michigan-born record label Ghostly International will also debut at the gallery and on Ghostly.com afterward. This capsule will consist of a short-sleeve and long-sleeve tee, an embroidered hat, and a full-zip sweatshirt with graphics based on artwork from the show.
